Language Tip of the Week 6: Focused Stimulation

Transcript:

Hi, this is Cherie, the Principal Speech Pathologist at Apex Speech and Language, here to bring you another Language Tip of the Week.

This week's Language Tip is called focused stimulation.

This is a technique we use to help children learn new words through high repetitions while acting out a target word.

For example, while playing with blocks, we might have the target word "up." We might say:

  • "Up, up! Build it up!"

  • "The tower is going up!"

  • "Can you build it up?"

Through high repetitions and using the word in various settings, this helps the child understand the word and, hopefully, use it in time.

And that's your Language Tip of the Week! We'll see you next week.
