Language Tip of the Week 4: Pointing

Transcript:

Hi, this is Cherie, the Principal Speech Pathologist at Apex Speech and Language, here to bring you another Language Tip of the Week.

This week's Language Tip is pointing.

When interacting with your child, it's great if you can point to things that both you and your child are looking at. While pointing, it's also helpful to add some words and gestures.

For example:

  • "Fire truck! Driving, driving! Go, go, go!"

  • "Rocket! Three, two, one... blast off!"

  • "Digger! Dig, dig, dig!"

By adding words and gestures alongside pointing, you're helping your child understand new words and sentence structures so they can use them.

And that's your Language Tip of the Week! We'll see you next week.
